Hands

Hand and Its Double is a series of photographs that reveals the different characters a pair of hands can embody. The hands are sometimes gentle, sometimes evil, sometimes mischievous or sensual.

As a former magician, my hands are the most important actors of my body. So I was compelled to create synesthetic visuals with portraits of hands, the most intimate and relational tentacles of the human body.

* Hand Portraits were created as part of #365PhotoChallenge.

The #365PhotoChallenge is Wei Ding’s one-year-long exploration of personal ideas. The project consists of 365 different ideas from Wei, executed daily for 365 days in a row, from 2019 to 2020.

The project was born out of Wei’s dissatisfaction with solely working on commercial projects and stagnating on personal ideas. It served as a daily reminder and challenge to stay true to his passion for photography and improve on his craft as a visual artist.

Wei Ding is a Chinese-American photographer and 3D artist from Queens, New York City, currently based in Los Angeles and Shanghai. He creates surreal visual works that twist the perceptions of reality.
